Configuring Eudora 6.2 (Windows)
The following instructions will help you configure Eudora 6.2
to access your Prairienet email account through POP. These instructions should work for Eudora versions 5.1 and up.
1. Open Eudora. If this is your first time using Eudora, the New
Account Wizard will open. Click Cancel.
2. Click on Tools on the Eudora Menu Bar.
3. Select Options.

4. The Options window will appear. Fill in the following information:
Real name: Enter your first and last name, or the
name that you want your correspondents to see.
Email address: Enter your email address in this form:
username@prairienet.org.
Mail Server (Incoming): Enter pop.prairienet.org.
User Name: Enter your username in lowercase letters.
SMTP Server (Outgoing): Enter mail.prairienet.org
only if you are using Prairienet's dialup. If you are
connecting from a third-party Internet Service Provider (ISP), you
must enter the name of its outgoing mail server. Examples of third-party
ISPs are UIUC, Insight, Prairie Inet, Ameritech, Soltec, Volo, Datatel, DMISI, and Sky
Networks, among many others. Contact your ISP if you do not know the
name of its outgoing mail server.
Allow authentication: Leave this setting unchecked.
5. Click on the Checking Mail icon in the left column
of the Options window. Fill in the following information:
Mail Server: If the box was not automatically filled
in, enter pop.prairienet.org.
Login Name: If the box was not automatically filled
in, enter your username.
6. In the box next to Check for Mail Every...Minute(s),
enter 10 if you want Eudora to check automatically anytime the program is running.
7. Under Secure Sockets when Receiving, select Required,
Alternate Port (if it was not selected automatically).
8. Click on the Incoming Mail icon in the left column
of the Options window. For Server configuration, select
POP.

9. After you select POP in the previous step, several
additional options will be available:
Leave Mail on Server: You can choose to leave
a copy of your messages on the server by checking the box next
to Leave Mail on Server, which is useful if you
check your email from two locations or want to have a backup of
your recent messages.
Delete from server after (blank) day(s): If
you choose to leave mail on the server, we recommend that you
also place a check next to Delete from server after
(blank) day(s). Messages that
are older than the number of days you enter into the blank will
be removed, which will help you keep your account under its space
quota.
Delete from server when emptied from Trash: You
can also choose to have copies removed from the server after you
have discarded the originals in Eudora. To set this option, check
the box next to Delete from server when emptied from Trash.
Skip messages over (blank) K in size: If you
don't want to download emails over a certain size (in kilobytes)
to your computer, then enter a number for the maximum allowed
size and check the box next to Skip messages over (blank)
K in size. This option is useful for people who check
their email from a dialup connection at home and don't want to
wait for large messages to download.
10. Click OK.
Eudora is now configured to access your Prairienet email account using POP.
